When I was reviewing for the nclex I used different question and answer type (Q and A) and i’m going to share it here. The Kaplan Question trainer it’s more than 1000 question with rationales. The Famous Saunders Comprehensive and Question and Answer with different edition more than 3000 question. You can get it once you buy Saunders book but you know what the questions in Saunders is very informative, knowledge and comprehensive type of question which happened to be below the standard of the NCLEX exam but its nice also to try it if you want to review topic by topic. The Exam Cram book with CD, I think this is very interesting cd. The question is much harder than other cd. They will give you difficult type of question for you to check if you’re ready to take your exam. It’s about mastering the concept until you finish it. I have also Springhouse and I tell you it’s the best. Their question will make you think and analyze the situation. I finished this for 3-4 days the whole set of question. If you want to answer hotspots question go for Lippincott, the book is colored and comes with free cd.

If you want to practice Select all that apply question there is available book in your preferred bookstore.

I know that every nursing student needs to take the nursing local board examination conducted by the PRC.  I was a student of the RA GAPUZ review center when I enrolled in their LOCAL-RN program. I highly recommend the RA GAPUZ review center because for me they are the top 1 nursing review center. Every topic that they discuss, every question, every rationalization, wow believe me they will make topics very easy. And at the end of the day you’ll just realized that you have learned so much… until now I can still remember whenever I enter our room the staffs will greet you and they will give you handouts or questionnaire for you to answer… then after a while our professor while discuss every question one by one and also the other answer options and from there we will be able to discuss the topic. I think their key is they teach you the CONCEPT not just the topic like the nursing school does. They will teach you the concept of one topic for you to remember even when you’re answering the hardest question. Like what Sir Gapuz said, “just remember the concept”…

One more thing, when I was still a student i’m having a hard time answering a lot of question (100 each subject). And that’s one thing that my review center taught me. To stay focus and enjoy answering question even more that 100. You know how?… here’s the technique that they do…they will distribute question paper that has 5 items, 10 items, 25,12,7,30,5,50,46,23,100,112,127,10…see how they do it? They’ll give you different set of questions every day. After 5 questions, discussion then another set of question that you have to answer then discussion until the end of one class… I think around 10-20 papers in each day and from that you’ll just realize that in a day you answer more that 100 question everyday…and believe me you’ll enjoy answering…and of course the professors are intelligent, smart, not boring and that’s very important… My class starts at 9 am until 6pm but still we keep listening to them, stayed focus and excited to the concept that they will teach us…Imagine how live and happy our lecture is…in our final couching its around 10am until around 8pm or 9pm because there’s a lot to discuss…you’ll get inspired when your there…we always sing praise song every morning and every after each professor that’s how we pray together…

There’s a lot of nursing review center and i’m sure nursing students is having a hard time to pick their review center but i’m telling you…you’ll enjoy and you’ll be satisfied with the program of the RA GAPUZ.

What can I say about Kaplan review center? Well if you want longer period for your review you can enrol in Kaplan because their program is good for 3 months with 3 free book and one user guide. But if you can’t manage your time therefore you better look for another review center, because in Kaplan they will just give you the book for you to read at home or in the laboratory and a list of video tapes that you can borrow in the library. It’s up to you how many video you will finish in a day or what book you will read… once you enrolled in Kaplan… you can access their laboratory and review materials everyday from Monday to Saturday 9am -7pm for 3 months… they don’t care if you’re absent or if you go home early or you go there late. It is all up to you…

About the program itself of Kaplan, they call it Structured Self Review. But still you should focus to your goal that when you enrolled you have to give your whole time and you have to MAXIMIZE your time there. Review every material they have if you need to repeat it then do so. Take your time and don’t rush topics. Ill give you tips for you to use:

    - Read first the international work book BEFORE you attend your first class. I finished it in one day. If your first day in Kaplan is Dec 1. read it on Nov 30 or 31

    - Read the BASIC book at home and bring it to the review center to read also. After a topic borrow the booklet for that topic then answer and check the answers. Then read again the basic until you finished it. IT IS BEST TO FINISHED FIRST THE BASIC BOOK BEFORE THE COURSE BOOK.

    - Give yourself 2weeks to 3 weeks to finished the Basic book including the exams

    - Then answer the exam fundamentals. You can ask the library about this exam. Let them check it for you to have a percent grade… the passing score is 65%.

    - Then go now to your course book… at least for 2 weeks

    - If you finished all the materials you can again schedule to repeat the topics. But I will just advice you to just repeat the lecture video together with the course book.

    - FINISHED EVERYTHING…FINISH THEIR MATERIALS BEFORE YOUR LIVE LECTURES…

    - Attend every lecture and have big notebook and pen always

    - Ask your classmates with their review reference

    - If you have exam in live lecture…ANSWER WITH YOUR OWN PACING AND DON’T CHAT WITH OTHERS…STAY FOCUS…MAXIMIZE YOUR TIME…

    - In every test, they will just give you enough time to answer to you better focus yourself and finish on time or else you going to omit some.. In 60 items they just give you 1 hour so that’s 1 item per 1 minute…

    - If they give you 180 items for 3 hours. Do this technique, answer 90 items in 1 ½ hour… but remember it’s not always multiple choice. They also give you SELECT ALL THAT APPLY , computation and hot spots

    - At home take a rest and try to answer question at least 75 questions per day. Read ALL the rationalization.

    - If you have a lot of books and reference with different information example in normal values. ALWAYS FOLLOW WHAT YOUR REVIEW CENTER GAVE YOU…what ever your review center is…just follow your review center.

Another thing that the Kaplan will teach you is their Strategies. They are not actually focusing in lectures….but more on how to answer a question and how to get the right answer even if you don’t know the correct answer or even you don’t know the diagnosis or the drug… that’s the power of their review… it is their secret I think.. and when you review in Kaplan…its good to apply all their strategies in every question that your answering but not in KNOWLEDGE OR COMPREHENSIVE question…you can only apply their strategy is ANALYSIS AND APPLICATION question…you have to master your strategies… don’t memorize it. PRACTICE IT… Even you know the answer…do the strategies first… honestly, I had a hard time doing it before, you know why? Because there’s a lot of question where in you really cant apply it… but I tell you…I used it in my actual exam even if i’m not sure with it… IT COMES OUT NATURALLY DURING YOUR EXAM…
